This is a great product, which I use daily. Lovely texture. It goes on smoothly and doesn’t leave an oily residue. I use it all over my face, neck and décolletage. I have only recently started using it but no irritation. Just nice smooth skin. I have deducted a star because the packaging is plastic and cannot be refilled.

KaramMD Illuminate is an anti-aging cream created by facial plastic surgeon Dr. Amir Karam. It combines retinol with peptides, antioxidants, and moisturizing ingredients to help improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven tone, and texture. It is the third step of Trifecta.
What makes Illuminate different from a single-ingredient treatment?
Illuminate combines several ingredient types in one cream, including retinol, peptides, vitamins, and moisturizing ingredients. It is designed to address multiple visible skin concerns and simplify overlapping cosmetic steps. The complete formula and your skin’s tolerance matter when deciding whether it fits your routine.
Does Illuminate contain retinol?
Yes. Illuminate contains retinol as part of a formula that also includes moisturizing and skin-supporting ingredients. Retinol can cause dryness or irritation, so introduce Illuminate gradually if you are new to retinol or have sensitive skin. Avoid retinol-containing products during pregnancy.
Can I use another retinol or a prescription retinoid with Illuminate?
Illuminate already contains retinol. Ask your dermatologist before adding another retinol product or a prescription retinoid such as tretinoin. Combining them can increase dryness and irritation, and more retinol is not automatically appropriate for your skin. Follow the prescriber’s instructions if you use a prescription treatment.
Is Illuminate a moisturizer?
Illuminate is an anti-aging cream that also provides moisture. For some people, it can serve as the moisturizing step of their routine. If your skin needs more moisture, apply Enrich after Illuminate. In the morning, finish with sunscreen.
Can I use Illuminate around my eyes and on my neck?
KaramMD’s directions include the face, eye area, and neck. Follow the current label for precise application guidance and avoid getting the product in your eyes. The eye area can be sensitive; stop applying it there if irritation develops.
Is Illuminate suitable for sensitive skin?
Illuminate was formulated with tolerability in mind, but it contains retinol and may still cause irritation. Review the ingredient list, introduce it gradually, and adjust use to your skin’s response. Ask a dermatologist before use if you have persistent redness, a diagnosed skin condition, or known ingredient allergies.
How often should I use Illuminate and can I use it in the morning?
KaramMD’s directions call for Illuminate in the morning and evening, after cleansing and Quench when using Trifecta. Follow the product label and adjust frequency to your tolerance. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning. Other retinol products may have different directions.
Can I use Illuminate without the complete Trifecta?
Yes. Illuminate can be used as the treatment and moisturizing step in an existing routine. Check for overlapping retinol products or other potentially irritating treatments. Within Trifecta, apply it after Rinse and Quench, and follow with sunscreen in the morning.
How long does it take to see results with Illuminate?
Visible changes depend on your skin, consistency, and the rest of your routine. The four- and eight-week results published for Trifecta were measured with the complete three-product system. They should not be interpreted as a guaranteed timeline or a separate clinical result for Illuminate alone.
