Hi Peggy,
Trifecta is all you need. There won’t be any need for another product but you can continue using a retinol if you’d like to. You would simply apply your retinol after Rinse. If you are not already religious with a retinol, the trifecta is perfect as a stand alone trio.
The retinol in Illuminate was never meant as a stand alone ingredient, it is just one of over a dozen active ingredients used for brightening and improving uneven skin tone. The formula is cutting edge, because it was important to Dr. Karam the Trifecta was tolerable for all skin types and textures, even for sensitive skin; therefore the concentration of the retinol has had to be carefully modulated to meet these specifications.
Use of full strength retinols and Retin-A cuts the pool of participants significantly as most people can’t tolerate, and therefore they stop using it. With Illuminate, even at low doses, it is still creating positive anti-aging effects, specifically because it comes in a form of a patented complex designed to maximize absorption and efficacy, and people can use it 2x a day without irritation.
Many find Quench and Illuminate provide enough moisture but you can add a simple moisturizer on top of the Trifecta, like Cetaphil or Cerave, while the skin is acclimating to your new routinw or during dryer months. If you feel like you want some added moisture, do what feels best for you!
We hope this is helpful and please don’t hesitate to reach out to customerservice@karammdskin.com if you have any additional questions!

Love your videos! I’d love to be able to see you in person. I live in Northern California and don’t get down your way very often.
I just turned 75 and have been following dedicated skincare since I was in my teens. Always used an expensive moisture cream ( the best I could afford) but just heard you say that expensive is not necessary. I do use your trifecta program. But I’m concerned about irritation I just had with a prescription retinol cream. So I held back. Is it better to alternate a prescription retinol with your trifecta? Or is it better to just go with your trifecta alone. Also, wondering if I need the additional moisturizer.
Thank you for your videos. They are so helpful and so interesting.

Hi Kaja,
It sounds like you would be a great candidate for the Trifecta. It’s a simple, three step regime. The Rinse cleanser is used first followed by the Quench serum and Illuminate all in one cream. If you have any additional questions please reach out to cusotmerservice@karammdskin.com.
