One of the most popular times people start thinking about skin treatments is right before a big event—whether it’s your wedding, a vacation, or the holidays.

Everyone wants that refreshed, glowing, camera-ready look. But here’s what many people overlook: timing is everything.

Over the years, I’ve seen patients come in too close to their big day—hoping for quick results—only to find themselves dealing with swelling, redness, or other temporary side effects that could’ve easily been avoided with better planning.

So, I asked one of the most trusted experts on my team, our aesthetic nurse Tonia, to create a guide on exactly how to time your skin treatments before a big event.

She’s helped countless patients look their best for weddings, reunions, and holidays by planning smartly and safely.

Here’s her breakdown on when to schedule everything: from deepest skin renewal (peels and lasers) to collagen stimulation (microneedling), to structural refinement (filler, Botox), to topical radiance (facials, exfoliation, and Polish).

With this guide, you can look radiant and confident without any last-minute stress.

Your Daily Skincare Foundation Comes First

Before you schedule any procedures before a big event, make sure your daily skincare routine is consistent. Without it, even the best treatments likely won’t reach their full potential.

Consistent skincare builds healthier, more resilient skin—and keeps vibrancy high—between refinements. It’s also what allows your treatment results to last longer and look better.

Your essential skincare lineup should include:

That’s exactly why I created the KaramMD Trifecta.

This three-step system—Rinse, Quench, and Illuminate—contains all the clinically proven actives Tonia mentioned above, delivered in a straightforward, easy routine. It takes just two minutes morning and night, yet builds the strong foundation every treatment truly relies on.

Once your skin is supported daily, you’re ready to plan your non-surgical procedure timeline:

When to Schedule Skin Treatments Before a Big Event

Whether you’re preparing for your wedding, holiday gatherings, or an important photoshoot, here’s how to time each type of treatment to let your skin heal, settle, and truly shine.

2-3 Months Before

Laser Treatments

Laser treatments can dramatically improve tone, texture, and pigmentation, but they require thoughtful timing — especially before a big event. The healing window and visible results depend on the laser’s strength and depth of penetration.

Here’s what to know:

  • Ablative or resurfacing lasers (like CO₂, Erbium, or Fraxel Repair): These remove the outer layer of skin to stimulate deep collagen remodeling. Expect redness, peeling, and sensitivity that can last 2–3 weeks, with lingering pinkness for up to 2–3 months. Schedule at least 8–12 weeks before your event to allow full healing and color normalization.
  • Non-ablative lasers (like Clear + Brilliant, Fraxel Dual, or Laser Genesis): These target the deeper layers of skin without removing the surface. Downtime is minimal — typically 2–7 days of mild redness or dryness — but optimal results appear 3–4 weeks later. Book at least 4- 6 weeks if you’re new to the treatment.
  • Vascular or pigment-targeting lasers (like IPL or BBL): Redness and mild swelling can last a few days, but brown spots or vessels may darken and flake off over 7–10 days. Plan these treatments 4–6 weeks in advance for an even, clear complexion.

If you’ve never had a laser treatment before, test it at least 2-3 months out to see how your skin responds. Every laser interacts differently with skin tone, texture, and sensitivity. Once you know your reaction, you can safely fine-tune your pre-event plan.

1-2 Months Before

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are fantastic for improving skin texture, brightening dullness, and stimulating collagen—but they require some lengthy recovery time. This is what to know:

  • Light peels: About 1 week of mild flaking and redness
  • Medium peels: 7–14 days of peeling and pinkness
  • Deep peels: 1–3 months of healing and pigment normalization. If considering a deep peel, trial the treatment ahead of any important date to learn your personal healing timeline and tolerance.

Since chemical peels are removing your entire top layer of skin, err on the side of caution and allow at least a month or two before any important date.

This not only allows you skin time to fully recover, but for the deeper skin remodeling and collagen production to kick in and really give you the full effect of your treatment.

Most patients getting pre-event peels stick to light or medium options, meaning recovery is typically shorter and more predictable.

Regardless of depth, it is generally a good idea to test a couple similar treatments before your big event so you can learn your personal healing timeline and tolerance.

6-8 Weeks Before

Filler

Thinking about filler before your event? This can be one of the most beautiful ways to restore volume and refine contours—but it deserves a generous runway so everything settles naturally in photos. The earlier the better.

Ideally you should plan plan filler 6-8 weeks before to allow for healing, settling, and any rebalancing or fine-tuning that may need to happen after the initial appointment.

Days 1–3: Expect possible swelling, tenderness, and pinpoint bruising; asymmetry may appear more pronounced during this period, especially while the skin is puffy.

By Week 2: Swelling and bruising resolve; shape looks more balanced and natural. You should book a follow-up with your aesthetic nurse if any imbalances remain.

Weeks 3-4: Results refine further as the product integrates with surrounding tissue. Results should start to look more natural.

Weeks 6-8: You’re in the “photo-ready” window; any post-appointment touch-ups have officially settled.

If you’re new to filler, or being injected by a new practitioner - make sure you leave enough time for bruising, swelling, healing, touch-ups, and healing again. The more comfortable you get with your personal healing timeline or a go-to injector that knows exactly what you're looking for, then you may not need as much time before an event.

Even if your a filler regular - leave enough time for unexpected bruising. Our face is filled with blood vessels that can easily get hit while injecting, even with the most experience nurses. If this happens you can support recovery with arnica, pineapple enzymes, hydration, and gentle skincare products.

4-6 Weeks Before

Microneedling

Microneedling softens skin texture, brightens tone, and stimulates collagen—but it needs a proper healing window for you to see the results you're wanting. Here's everything to know:

Days 1-3: Pink to red (mild sunburn look), with tightness, mild swelling, and sensitivity.

By Day 7: Redness + tenderness fade; dryness with renewal; tone + texture normalize.

Week 1-2: Surface healing is largely complete; any visible irritation resolves.

Weeks 4-6: Deeper collagen remodeling continues beneath the skin's surface.

While your skin may look normal again within a week, true healing, full collagen and elastin repair takes about a month or more.

That’s why microneedling sessions are usually spaced 4–6 weeks apart to allow complete recovery and optimal results. If you want the effects of tighter, softer skin before your event, give your skin enough time to fully recover.

3–4 Weeks Before

Botox & Other Neuromodulars

Botox (& neuromodulators like Dysport or Juvederm) are known to soften dynamic lines for a smoother, camera-ready look—but they still need a well-planned runway. Here's a brief rundown on what to know:

Book 3–4 weeks before your event to allow for onset, peak effect, and a quick tweak.

Days 3–5: You’ll notice early softening of frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines.

Days 7–10: Expressions look smoother while remaining natural.

Day 14: Follow-up with your provider to make sure everything has settled symmetrically. This leaves ~1-2 weeks for any fine-tuning and resettling, so everything photographs evenly.

Weeks 3–4: Results appear settled and balanced; you’re in the photo-ready window.

For those who've never had Botox, plan 3-4 weeks out to see how your body responds, and keep skincare gentle during this time.

Support recovery and skin quality with hydration and soothing basics (cleanse, moisturize, SPF). Avoid working out, or new or irritating actives the first few days.

1-2 Weeks Before

Facials & HydraFacials

Facials (especially HydraFacial) boost clarity, hydration, and instant radiance—but timing is everything if you want glow without surprise breakouts. This is what to know about facials:

Book 1-2 weeks before so skin can detox, rebalance, and avoid post-purging.

Days 1-2: Skin looks clean and dewy; a slight “detox” phase is possible in first-timers, which could result in breakouts.

By Day 7: Tone and texture look more even; any minor congestion clears.

Week 1-2: Hydration peaks; makeup lays smoothly and photographs perfectly.

Keep actives gentle for the first 48 hours after a facial; skip extractions if you’re planing to do one of these before a big event. Trial the facial or Hydrafacial ahead of time, so you know exactly how your skin responds.

If you’ve tolerated HydraFacials well before and are not prone to breakouts, you can go the same week of your event.

Always-On Skin Habits

Do these on repeat so you’re never scrambling before a big event:

Consistency beats last-minute fixes.

These healthy habits keep your skin clear, calm, and photo-ready.

Make Results Last: Start Early, Stay Consistent

The secret to glowing, youthful skin before a big event isn’t a single treatment—it’s the right timing, supported by consistent, active skincare. You can spend time and money on injectables or facials, but if your skin isn’t healthy underneath, your results won’t last.

That’s why I always tell my patients:

  • Start treatments early
  • Be consistent with your skincare routine
  • Protect your skin daily

Treatments enhance your results—but the skincare foundation is what truly makes them last. This season, make it your goal to plan smart and let your skin look its absolutely best when it matters most.
