If you really want to turn back the clock on your skin, a healthy lifestyle goes hand in hand with an effective skincare routine.

As we age, choosing to eat nutritiously can have an incredibly positive impact on how our skin ages, as well as how we feel.

My wife Neda and I are dedicated to following a healthy diet that balances essential nutrients like lean protein, healthy fat, fiber and antioxidants. Eating this way gives me the stamina I need to stay at the top of my game on busy surgical days, and it's been key to helping Neda maintain her skin radiance over the years

As you all know, one of my favorite ways to get my nutrients is with a daily green smoothie. My typical blend is made with blueberries, leafy greens, Greek yogurt and some other skin-loving ingredients.

Smoothies are such a simple way to pack a ton of clean ingredients into a quick meal on the go, and since so many people have been enjoying my green smoothie recipe, I thought it would be fun to try out a couple of new smoothies, but with a twist - all of the ingredients are also found in your KaramMD products. These new recipes are delicious, easy to make, and are designed specifically to support your skin.

Feel free to follow these recipes exactly or tweak them to fit your own preferences. In fact, I’d love to see your own variation on a KaramMD smoothie, so I’ve included a list of some of the natural (and delicious) ingredients you’ll find in Rinse, Quench, Illuminate, Polish, and Enrich.

Whether as a morning boost or an afternoon pick-me-up, a smoothie has always been my go-to for a quick, light meal that helps with mental health, delivering focus and energy, and also supports my overall physical health, including my skin. That's why I've maintained this habit for well over a decade.

I hope you can find your own staple recipe, and that this healthy habit is something you can adopt into your own routine, especially if you're looking for a fool-proof way to get more fruits and vegetables into your daily diet.

Superfood Smoothie

This smoothie is creamy, tasty and will keep you satisfied and energized. You could enjoy it as a light breakfast or mid-day snack when you need extra go-power for whatever you have on deck that day.

Ingredients + Benefits:

  • Coconut Milk: Both coconut milk (or sub almond milk) is high in Vitamin E, which protects the skin against environmental stressors that contribute to dull skin and premature aging.
  • Old-fashioned Rolled Oats: Oats are a wonderful source of soluble fiber and contain other plant compounds and minerals like zinc and selenium that are key to immunity.
  • Pineapple: Pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that aids in digestion and reduces inflammation in the digestive tract.
  • Spinach: Spinach is rich in antioxidants including Vitamins A and C. Spinach also contains fiber, folate, and Vitamin E which support the skin’s natural barrier function.
  • Raspberries: Raspberries are high in fiber and Vitamin C. They also contain manganese, an essential trace mineral that is necessary for collagen production and skin repair.
  • Mango: Packed with fiber and Vitamin C, which is key for collagen synthesis and helps protect the skin from free radical damage.

How to Make the KMD Superfood Smoothie:

01. Add ¼ cup oats to ½ cup coconut milk

  • If you don't have coconut milk, you can sub almond milk
  • Let rest in the refrigerator for 3-6 hours, until softened.
  • If you prefer to skip the oats, replace with ½ cup Greek yogurt.

02. Add oat and milk mixture to blender

03. Add remaining ingredients to blender:

  • ½ cup pineapple
  • Small  handful spinach
  • ½ cup frozen raspberries
  • ½ cup frozen mango

04. Blend until smooth

  • Pro tip: Add ice to adjust taste and texture

05. Enjoy!

Glow Getter

This smoothie is light and refreshing and more like a green juice. It’s a great way to consume the vitamins and minerals you need in the most natural and freshest way.

Ingredients + Benefits:

  • Avocado: Avocados contain healthy fat, which is important to maintain skin hydration, and carotenoids, which have been shown to improve skin elasticity and firmness. Avocados also provide antioxidant protection, offer a rich, creamy taste, help balance blood sugar, and will help keep you full from the smoothie by slowing down digestion.
  • Green Apple: Apples are a great source of soluble fiber, which helps keep bowels moving. A healthy gut is reflected in glowy, clear skin. Apples also contain polyphenols and a flavonoid called fisetin that reduces inflammation in the skin and boosts cell health.
  • Kale: Kale is also rich in fiber and a source of vitamin A and vitamin C, which are key for keeping skin youthful and resilient.
  • Kiwi: Kiwis have both soluble and insoluble fiber and is a vitamin C powerhouse. Vitamin C is key to the production of collagen in the skin. Kiwis also contain Vitamin E and potassium, a mineral which is crucial for maintaining skin hydration.
  • Lemon: Lemon is also a great source of Vitamin C and potassium, which are linked to even skin tone and hydration. Lemon helps pull together the flavor of a green smoothie so that it tastes delicious and refreshing.

How to Make The KMD Glow Getter Smoothie:

01. Add all ingredients to a blender.

  • ½ avocado
  • 1 green apple, cored and sliced
  • 1 small handful washed kale
  • 1 kiwi, skinned
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • ½ cup water
  • Ice to taste

02. Blend until smooth.

  • Pro Tip: If you prefer a thicker texture, add some ice or extra frozen fruit.

03. Pour into a glass.

04. Enjoy!

Build Your Own KMD Smoothie

Time to get creative! Whip up a smoothie that sounds good to you. As with your skincare, the most important thing when it comes to eating healthily is doing so consistently. Choose ingredients that you enjoy and might already keep on hand. If you have a hard time keeping fruit, I also recommend frozen fruits, which last longer and can thicken the texture.

Base:

  • Coconut milk (Polish)
  • Rice Milk (Polish)
  • Passionfruit juice (Enrich)
  • Apple or apple juice (Rinse)
  • Green tea (Rinse)
  • Water

Fruits & Vegetables:

This is where your antioxidants and vitamins come in — the same kind of nutrients that protect your skin in KaramMD Trifecta.

  • Berries: Rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants that fight free radicals, the same power of Vitamin C found in Quench
  • Leafy greens (spinach, kale): Contain folate, fiber, and Vitamins A (Illuminate) and Vitamins C & E for skin repair (Quench)
  • Citrus (orange, kiwi, lemon): Stimulates natural collagen production due to high vitamin C (Quench)
  • Mango, papaya, pineapple: Contain enzymes that aid digestion and brighten skin (Polish)

Protein, Fiber, Healthy Fats:

Healthy fats help your body absorb fat-soluble vitamins and maintain skin hydration. Fiber and protein keep you full, support tissue repair, and balance blood sugar — all of which affect your skin’s glow.

  • Oats: Great for skin barrier and digestive health
  • Collagen powder: Look for clean, minimal ingredients
  • Avocado: Found in Enrich for improved skin elasticity and hydration
  • Nuts or nut butters: Enrich has macadamia and Brazil nuts, but you can also sub almonds or your nut butter of choice
  • Chia seeds or flaxseed: Omega-3s are packed into Enrich, bringing powerful skin-smoothing and anti-inflammatory properties

How to Make Your Own KaramMD Skin Smoothie:

01. Start with a liquid base

Add ½–1 cup of liquid to create the right texture and help your ingredients blend smoothly.

  • Juice will add sweetness
  • Plant milks will add creaminess
  • Water adds hydration over flavor

02. Add Fruits and Vegetables

03. Add your protein healthy fats and fiber

  • Pro tip: If your smoothie gets too thick, balance it out with more liquid.

04. Enjoy!

  • Have fun with different combinations each time, until you find the winner
  • Snap a photo of your winning recipe
