Have you ever asked yourself, "Why is my skincare routine not working?" Maybe you've tried everything, but nothing seems to work.
In your quest to have great skin, there are some things you may be doing that could actually be harming your skin and ultimately failing you in the long run. I explain these in detail, including more about how the skin works and why in my Skin School video and below. Here are the common skincare mistakes you might be making.
YOU HAVEN’T COMMITTED TO TAKING SUN PROTECTION SERIOUSLY
The most serious accelerator to skin aging is sun exposure. Sun exposure is responsible for 70-80% of skin aging. Before we try to start doing anything for our skin, we have to commit to protecting our skin from the sun. What does that mean? Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen, wear hats, avoid the peak hours when the sun is the most intense, and ensure you do whatever you need to do to protect your skin, especially on the face.
YOU’RE NOT USING A PROPER CLEANSER
Many cleansers are abrasive and end up causing skin problems, Find a cleanser that doesn’t dry out or irritate your skin, but thoroughly cleanses and decreases inflammation. This allows the active ingredients of the skin products you’re using later in your routine to penetrate the surface of the skin and be effective.
YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE IS INCOMPLETE
Your skin needs a combination of active skincare ingredients to reverse or slow down the signs of age. Your products should stimulate collagen at the cellular level, decrease pigment, and exfoliate the skin to get rid of the surface of dead, dull skin cells.
YOUR SKINCARE PRODUCTS DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT INGREDIENTS
You need a Retinol, Vitamin C, a Growth Factor, Niacinamide, and Peptides to stimulate collagen production over time. These ingredients give your skin the nutrients it needs to build collagen.
YOU’RE OVERWHELMED WITH TOO MANY SKINCARE PRODUCTS
Whether you hear it from a friend, an ad, an influencer, or some other source, you wind up buying new products, trying them for about four weeks, not really seeing great results, and moving on to the next product or skincare trend. Or, you have so many skincare products it’s almost impossible to stay consistent and use them every day. Next thing you know, you have a drawer full of products you don’t use.
YOU’RE NOT CONSISTENT FOR THE LONG TERM (THINK YEARS, NOT DAYS)
When I see people who have fresh, gorgeous, supple skin in their 60s, I always ask them what their secrets are. They all have these things in common:
- Consistent sun protection throughout their lives
- A skincare program with Retinol, Vitamin C and the right ingredients for skin
- Continuity–they’ve been following their skincare routine for decades
The Three Cs
At my practice, we have a motto: the three Cs for beautiful skin. Once you’ve got the right skincare products, you need the three Cs to reverse the signs of aging and get better and better skin.
CONSISTENCY
Don’t bounce around from product or trend to trend. Stick with the same thing that you know works.
CONTINUITY
Think with the word “forever” when it comes to routine, consistent skincare. Use your effective products and skincare routine every day, year in and year out.
COMMITMENT
Commit to beautiful skin. Protect your skin from the sun and use the right products with all the required ingredients for luminous, gorgeous skin for the long run.
Skincare products that include the vital ingredients for beautiful skin

I developed the Trifecta, a three-step skincare line that includes a non-irritating cleanser with ideal properties, a Vitamin C serum to lighten and brighten skin, and an all-in-one, Illuminate, that has all of the active ingredients I mentioned above. Between these three simple products, your skin is getting 20 different vital, active ingredients. I also formulated Polish, an optimum exfoliator for fresh, renewed skin.
I created these products after years of working with clients who were frustrated or overwhelmed with complicated, many-step skincare programs that were difficult to follow consistently.
