Getting Started: Check In

Starting a new routine is exciting, and you may already be noticing some subtle, positive changes like increased hydration, a brighter glow, and smoother texture.

Not seeing changes yet? Not to worry! The Trifecta is crafted to benefit all skin types, and most people find they adapt seamlessly to their new routine. But, for a few, the adjustment may take a bit longer as the skin acclimates to the powerful active ingredients.

Skin Responses You Might Encouner

During these early stages, it's also normal to notice some skin activity. We're here to support you through any questions or curiosities that come up, helping you understand what to expect and how to get the best from your new routine.

If you. are experiencing redness, dryness, or breakouts, this is completely normal at this stage and should ease within a few weeks.

Read on to learn what’s happening with your skin and how you can make this transition smoother!

01.

Redness

Retinol can make your skin appear red at first, a common and temporary side effect when introducing a Retinol product into your routine.

This happens because Retinol boosts cell turnover and stimulates collagen production, key processes for reducing fine lines and improving skin texture. While the initial redness may be unsettling, it’s a sign that your skin is beginning to respond to the active ingredients, and with consistent use, these early effects typically subside as your skin adjusts.

What You Can You Do:

  • If you are experiencing redness, you skin may be sensitive to the new potent actives. Try adjusting usage to once daily or every other day until your skin adjusts.
  • Make sure to wear SPF, as your skin sensitivity is heightened during this time.
  • While redness is normal, experiencing rashes or a burning sensation is not. If you notice these symptoms, please contact our customer care team for further guidance.

02.

Dryness

Active ingredients accelerate cell turnover and exfoliate the skin, which can temporarily disrupt the skin barrier, often causing sensations of dryness or tightness.

You might notice peeling or flakiness, particularly around sensitive areas like the nose, mouth, and eyes. This is a normal part of the process, and your skin barrier will naturally rebalance over time. To minimize discomfort, soothe your skin by keeping it well-moisturized.

What You Can Do:

  • If your skin needs an extra boost of hydration, we highly recommend supporting dry skin with a product like Enrich. This breathable balm helps enhancing your skin’s barrier and retain hydration.
  • Optimize your evening routine with slugging: apply your balm over Trifecta to lock in moisture and prevent overnight hydration loss.

03.

Breakouts

Breakouts when starting a new skincare routine are often referred to as “skin purging.”

This occurs when products that increase cell turnover, such as retinoids, accelerate the process of bringing underlying impurities—like dead skin cells, excess oil, and trapped debris—to the surface.

As your skin clears out these impurities, it can lead to increased breakouts. While this part of the process can be frustrating and may feel like your skin is reacting negatively, it actually means the products are working.

This is a normal part of the skin’s adjustment phase. As your skin continues to turn over, you’ll notice fewer breakouts and a clearer complexion.

What You Can Do:

  • Stick it out! Trust the process!
  • If the breakouts worsen and persist beyond 8 weeks, it could indicate that a product isn't suitable for your skin, so please reach out to CS with questions.
  • Treat your skin delicately during this time. Follow the Sensitive Skin Survival Guide for more tips on how to manage breakouts.
