Do Men and Women Need Different Skincare?
The idea that men and women need fundamentally different skincare is largely a myth.
However, men’s skin does have some unique biological differences:
- Men’s skin is thicker due to higher levels of collagen. This added thickness helps men’s skin resist signs of aging longer, but when aging does occur, it tends to appear more abruptly.
- Higher testosterone levels lead to more active sebaceous (oil) glands, which leads to shiny oily skin, larger pores, and a greater tendency toward breakouts.
- Regular shaving can weaken the skin barrier, leading to increased sensitivity and irritation, and blood cells are closer to the surface meaning skin can appear more red and distressed.
Men and women do have different skin, but that doesn’t mean they need entirely different skincare.
The key to effective anti-aging and healthier skin is a routine centered on high-quality ingredients that balance the skin and work on a cellular level to slow down aging and even reverse some of its effects over time.
This approach benefits everyone, regardless of skin type, age, or gender.
However, understanding the difference between men’s and women’s skin can simplify the skincare process for beginners, making it easier to build a foundational routine that addresses individual skincare concerns.

My husband of 40 years has never used any products outside of cleansing his skin, he’s always had a nice complexion. However I would slip a product or 2 to him every now and then because he was starting to show some redness. Mainly a serum and sunscreen. We definitely started noticing a clearer look. But then he would borrow my Trifecta and it really bumped results up! Now he has his own set on his side of the bathroom and uses it daily, twice a day (I would have never thought! lol) Now it’s glowing! Easy too because I’m not scrambling around trying to buy different products here and therefor the both of us. Thanks for creating The Trifecta!

Hi Carolyn —Thanks for your comment! What an amazing story! We absolutely love hearing how The Trifecta has become a part of not just your routine, but your husband’s too (twice a day—now that’s commitment! 🙌). It’s incredibly rewarding to know that it’s making a visible difference and simplifying skincare for both of you. We’re so grateful for your support!

I have been using Trifecta for one week. The one interesting thing that I have noticed is that I no longer need to use corticosteroids to reduce my facial eczema. The flare ups that I used to get are mostly gone.

Thank you for these amazing insights. I wear facial hair at a shadow length. Should my skincare routine and products be applied over the hairs? I worry that it could cause build up and in grown hairs.

Hi Phillip—Thank you for your question! Yes, your skincare products should be applied over the hairs to reach the skin underneath. Choosing lightweight, non-comedogenic products like those in the Trifecta and focusing on gentle cleansing and exfoliation twice weekly will help prevent buildup and reduce the risk of ingrown hairs while keeping your skin healthy.
